Family:
James Claude Ring (known as Claude) was born about 1887 the son of the Greymouth photographer, James Ring. He married at Knox Church, Dunedin on 24 June 1911 to Winifred Margaret Beattie the youngest daughter of the late Robert Beattie of Christchurch.

After
the church services at the Presbyterian Church last evening the choir
assembled to make a presentation to Mr Claude Ring, who leaves this
morning for Dunedin to be married to Miss Beattie. Mr Moss, in
presenting Mr Ring with a handsome travelling bag, wished him every
happiness in his married life. Mr Ring thanked the members for their
handsome present and kind wishes.

In 1964 he was living at 101 Innes Road, Christchurch and died at Christchurch on 30 August 1971.

Stewart Dawson Building
In
1919 Claude Ring took over the photographic business of Walter Clegg situated in the Stewart Dawson Building, at
222 High Street, Christchurch and he remained there until at least 1955.

Mr Claude Ring, who has for some time past been associated with Mr Bartlett, the loading photographer of Auckland, has commenced business on his own account in Stewart, Dawson and Co.’s new building in Christchurch. When it becomes known in the City of the Plains of Mr C. Ring’s capabilities as a shadow-catcher, we feel sure that he will reap the business he deserves. His work has been highly commented on by those in authority from the lending firms at Home. We join with his friends in wishing him every success.

Mr Claude Ring, one of the oldest and most widely known photographers in Christchurch, was made an honorary life member of the Institute of New Zealand Photographers when the institute met for its annual conference in Wellington. In 1953, Mr Ring was among the first eight to become associate members of the institute. He is the first person to become both an associate member and a life member
