Gordon Bruce Scott born 19 June 1931 died 17 October 1997

Attack by Stag
(N.Z. Press Association) Invercargill, May 4. A man is in Frankton Hospital, near Queenstown, with fractured ribs and a possible fractured hand after dashing to the rescue of an Auckland freelance photographer who was being attacked by a large red stag in the Frankton Peninsula deer park on Saturday. The photographer, Gordon Bruce Scott, aged 37, received abrasions.

Bernard Francis Long, who is in a satisfactory condition in hospital, his wife and son, and Mr L. T. Smolenski, of Queenstown, noticed the photographer in difficulties when they were on a sight-seeing walk. Their intervention probably saved Mr Scott from serious injury. The incident happened after Mr Scott had entered the park through the 15ft protection fence. He was knocked down and trampled on by the stag, which had had its antlers cut off. The rescuers diverted the stag’s attention while Mr Scott managed to get back through the fence.
