An excellent photograph of the ill-fated ship may now be seen in the window of Mr. Batt's photographic establishment, Lambton Quay. It was taken by Mr. De Maus, of port Chalmers, on the vessel's last visit to that port, and a lady who was a passenger by her then, has kindly lent it for exhibition.

Mr William J. Batt, one of Palmerston's oldest residents, died there last night, aged seventy years. The deceased was born in Taunton, England, and emigrated to Wellington in 1858, and after being in business there for some years removed to Palmerston North. He took an active interest in Freemasonry, and was one of the founders of the United Manawatu Lodge. He will be accorded a Masonic funeral, at Palmerston on Sunday next.

Mr William J. Batt, who has been ill for several weeks, died at his residence, College street, last evening. The deceased, who was born in Taunton, England, came to Wellington in 1858, and resided in Palmerston for the last 28 years. He was a mason of very high standing, being a past master and a founder of the United Manawatu Lodge. He was in his seventieth year. A Masonic funeral will take place on Sunday, and the time will be announced by our evening contemporary.
