In 1897 at a photographic competition held in conjunction with the Metropolitan Cycle Show, Mr J. G. Lamb received a prize for his photograph titled "Matthew Surface".(1)
At the Home Industries competitions held in November 1900, S. Webb of Papanui and J. G. Lamb of St Albans received commendations for their photographs of "Animal life". (2)
A group of seven animal photographs by J. G. Lamb of Christchurch illustrated an article titled "Art in Photography" in the Otago Witness in September 1905. The article says that James Lamb used a half-plate camera with a whole-plate rectilinear lense to take these photographs. (3)

Mr J. G. Lamb of Christchurch, representing Messrs Underwood and Underwood of London, is now in Hokitika, with the firm's well known make of stereoscope.
The firm's stereoscopic views are altogether unique, being all original pictures of the subjects represented, and they are looked upon where they are known, as both educational and artistic.
Photographs viewed through the stereoscope have a highly realistic appearance, giving the effect of actual reality. Among the subjects of the views are the "British and Boer War," "Through China and Japan," "The Coronation" "Martinique" and a countless variety of other scenes.
The firm's stereoscopic views are altogether unique, being all original pictures of the subjects represented, and they are looked upon where they are known, as both educational and artistic.

Mr J G. Lamb, representing the firm of Underwood and Underwood, of New York and London has shown us some really remarkable stereoscope views of the Martinique eruption, Boer war, Coronation, Delhi Durbar, together, with some New Zealand (West Coast) pictures, and other up to date as well as classical scenes. An extraordinary feature of the pictures as seen through the stereoscope is the wonderful effect of perspective, the whole of the scenes and figures representing the illusion that they are real and tangible, and in some cases the latter appear to be literally walking out of the picture.
The new aluminium mahogany stereoscope is a powerful and compact form of that instrument, and the price being within the reach of all no doubt Mr Lamb will receive many orders in this city.

Mr J. G. Lamb, representing the firm of Underwood and Underwood, of London and New York, has shown us some remarkable stereoscopic views of general interest also the new system by which one can travel to the chief countries of the world.
It consists of travel of the truest kind, yet does not utilise either ship or railroad, or any of the ordinary bodily conveyances, and yet one can get the sensations and pleasurable knowledge of being in strange lands and among the strong and interesting peoples of the world, the illusion that they are real and tangible, and in some cases the latter seem to literally walking out of the picture.
The aluminum mahogany stereoscope is a powerful and compact form of that instrument, and the price is within the reach of all. The fact that a number of the colleges and high schools of this and other lands are fitting themselves with such historical travels as Italy. Palestine, and Egypt will give one an idea of the value of U. and U.'s travel system from an educational point of view. The value of the stereoscope will no doubt apeal (sic) to many.
