SHAW, Matthew Barr

Matthew Barr Shaw
Ashburton

A New Photographer. Mr Matt. B. Shaw has gone back to his old profession and has commenced business as a photographer in Ashburton. His forte appears to be in views of buildings, landscapes, and groups, and with all of such that he has essayed of late he has been remarkably successful.

A photograph of the Club front taken by him comes out with all the clearness of stereoscopic effect, while pictures of the new bank in course of erection, and several other of our more important buildings are equally good. He has also taken several interiors with perfect success. Amongst these deserving of special note are the kitchen at the railway refreshment rooms, and the bars at the Somerset Hotel. Not every photographer shines in this kind of work, and it is understood that if the opportunity is afforded him, Mr Shaw will secure negatives of the interiors of several of our churches which have not yet had full justice done to them with the camera. Mr Shaw's groups of cyclists taken in the Domain last Thursday have also been very artistically handled.
