Photographer's negatives - the most common question I am asked relates to the current location of photographer's negatives - see this post.

I'm not able to provide any information about photographers other than that on this site. I'm am also not able to date photographs or assist you in identifying people in photographs you may have. I am unable to assist in locating the current location of business records or negatives of any photographer.

I recommend the Auckland City Library's website for more information about New Zealand photographers - http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/dbtw-wpd/photographers/basic_search.htm

Theodosia Maria Rhodes "Maria"
born 12 March 1809 - died 14 June 1892
Eldest daughter of William Rhodes and Theodosia Maria Heaton and sister of Robert Heaton Rhodes
 photographed by James Walker, Doncaster.

"...Maria and Margaret lived with their father [William Rhodes], who eventually retired to the village of Balby, now a suburb of Doncaster... [h]e died in 1869, aged 88 years...After the death of their father, Maria and Margaret made their home at Carhouse Road, Doncaster, where they lived to a great age, and enjoyed many visits from their nieces and nephews from New Zealand.

Runholders were frequently asked for advice by persons contemplating emigration to New Zealand, and the Rhodes sisters, with whom the brothers still corresponded fairly regularly, were also sometimes asked for their opinion by intending settlers. Maria once wrote to William on this subject,
Miss Green has one brother whom she would be glad to go to New Zealand. I told her that my my brothers never liked us to send them Gentlemen. They must be either working men or capitalists."
George Rhodes of the Levels, A. E. Woodhouse, 1937.
