Easter & Wallis
The City Photographic Rooms, Colombo Street, Christchurch
Theophilus Easter was born in England about 1832, he died on 11 September 1913 aged 81 and was buried in block 14c plot 33 Sydenham Cemetery. At the time he was living at 123 Durham Street, Christchurch. The burial records show him as a photographer. Margaret Easter was buried in the same plot in 1917 aged 80 years.
The 1841 census shows a Theop. Easter aged 17 years living with his parents, John (born c. 1796) and Mary Easter (born c. 1797) in Church Church, Surrey. Both father and son are shown as engineers. It is not know if this is the same person who later became a photographer in New Zealand.
In September 1870 they advertised for tenders for a veranda for their studio in Colombo Street

Canterbury Museum, 28th May, 1892. Sir, I find from an examination of the Museum accounts for 1890 and 1891 in the Registrars Office, that the Museum paid during those years about eighteen pounds (£18) to Mr Easter for photographs and negatives. None of these are now in the Museum. Mr W. S. Colclough informs me that Mr Forbes packed up and took away from the Museum a number of photographs and negatives, but he does not know if they these are the ones paid for by the Museum.
