Fraser Family Album





 Robert Home, CB., the son of Major-General Richard Home and Frances Sophia Home nee Fraser, he was born in the East Indies about 1835. In the 1871 census he is shown at 8 Vernon Terrace, Brighton the house of his widowed mother. At the house also was his wife Eliza Georgina Fraser nee Elton and children Robert Elton Home and Eliza B. Home. He was at this time a Captain in the Royal Bengal Engineers. Twenty years later in the 1891 census he is living at 6 Suffolk Square, Cheltenham, he was then aged 56 and a retired Colonel of the Royal Engineers. He died in Cheltenham in 1896 aged 61.

His eldest son Robert Elton Home was born at Kussowlie, West Bengal, India on 29 May 1869. The next child Eliza Home was born in Brighton, England in 1871. Other children, Ethel, Kathleen, Richard, John and William were all born in the East Indies between 1873 and 1881.

Isabelle Werry was born in Smyrna, Turkey about 1838 and died about 1888 in England aged 50 years.





Aunt Harriet
Harriet Catherine Werry, born on 2 January 1829 Smyrna, Turkey.
The 1881 census shows her as a visitor at the house of Harry George, 6 Church Street, Liscard, Cheshire. She was unmarried and aged 52 years.
She died on 28 Jan 1884 at West Kensington Park, Middlesex, England aged 56 years, the death was registered in Fulham - March quarter 1884 vol. 1a page 153.

George Macdonald Home Playfair (1850-1917) was born in India the son of George Ranken (or Rankin) Playfair and Frances (Fanny) Harriet Playfair nee Home. His parents had married in India in 1849. Fanny was the daughter of Major-General Richard Home of Berwickshire and her brother was Lieutenant Duncan Charles Home VC (1828-1857).
The 1881 census shows him as B A Assistant Interpretor H M Consular Service Chrmn (Colonel) at 26 Longridge Road, London.

Francie and Rose Beale
This is Frances Fraser and Rosa Beale (called Rose by the family) who married Frances' brother Oswald. When Oswald got into trouble Charlton (owner of the album) wrote to Hanson 'I send you £20—a small help for you towards Rose and the children—I wish I could do more—'.Rosa has descendants in America.




Hanson Werry Fraser 
born 8 May 1850 Smyrna, Turkey 
died 19 November 1929 Weybridge, Surrey, England.

This is Hanson Fraser, the eldest child of John Fraser and Elmira Werry, and the brother of the owner of the album. Speaking of Hanson in 1885, Charlton referred to 'the example of an older brother who has been as a father to us'. Hanson was 17 when his father John Fraser died, leaving his mother with ten children.






Walter Simon Fraser 
Walter Simon Fraser was baptised on 3 July 1864 at Castle Church, Stafford the son of Simon James Gordon Fraser and Marian Worsley Fraser.










Frederick Home
Frederick Jervis Home (Major - Royal Engineers) born in Calcutta on 22 November 1839. He married Constance Stanley McGowan (born 1847 India - died 1894)
