Ralph Warburton
born 1915 Invercargill - died 2007
IN THE 1940s, and while in his 30s, Ralph Warburton fell in love with the mountains. He gave up his job of watchmaker and trained as a glacier guide, later becoming official photographer for glacier parties at Franz Josef. His family formed and grew up in the tiny South Westland village, a remote spot before the Haast highway was put through years later. He died in 2007 aged 92 years.

Hi I have colour slides by R Warburton of Lake Mathewson and Mapourika. I have Gladys M Goodall. N Hatwell. Can you please let me know if valued or rare?
Are they rare? I think they probably are. Some would have been taken overseas by tourists and those that ended up staying in New Zealand would later have been thrown away as people are no longer weren't interested in them or don't have the means to view them.
Are the valved? I assume you mean to they have a monetary value. They are not something you can frame and hang on the wall. You can't see the image unless you have something to view them in. If you digitally scan them, the image is poor. They might be worth a few dollars each.
Te Papa or The Alexander Turnbull Library might be interested to accept them as a donation or you could try and sell them on Trade Me. Te Papa has Goodall's negatives but no slides that I know of. My collection is the only one in New Zealand that I know of. The executive of Goodall's estate had only ever seem a few of her slides. Hope this helps.
